All City Championships Bandit Cross
We're going to begin our coverage of the 2016 All City Championships (four days of bike racing glory held annually) with the largest ever Bandit Cross in Minneapolis. Some 75 racers took to the start line on the classic Hobo Camp race course in the shadow of downtown. Kevin Sparrow was on hand to document the goings on during the whole bike party weekend, and as you'll see over the coming posts, his photos turned out spectacular.
For those not familiar, Bandit Cross is free cyclocross racing open to all kinds of bikes, that I started organizing in 2010. It has served as the gateway for a whole generation of urban cyclists to find their way into the sport, and has over the years continuously improved my views on humanity. It's glorious: no money, no fees, no governing bodies, no whiny attitudes, no bullshit. Just pure fun and smiles on the best courses we can put together amidst the cities leftover green spaces and forgotten industrial places.
The course was jamming, the people were happy, and at least 12 of the riders told me that this was their first ever cross experience and that they can't wait to do more!
The gravel pit section of the course, this is where the city dumps it's street sweeper debris
