Bike Camping

Some dudes were planning on leaving work early on Friday to go bike camping out at Carver park before it opened to the public for the season. I had been kicking around the idea of joining them all week with the caveat that I get my bike ready for camping by then. Well on Thursday when I was supposed to be working on it, I went out and rode street instead. I showed up to work with no intention of going camping, but they were stoked which got me bummed that I wasn't going because who likes to miss out on fun?

Lucky for me everything I needed was rounded up quickly between the clothes I had stashed at my desk and the gear I could borrow from Quality. So I called the B. and let her know I wasn't coming home that night.

From desk/locker: winter cap, sweater, hoodie, pants, two pairs of socks, Crocs, vest
From Q Outdoor: stereo, hammock, rain fly, headlamp, stakes

I shoved all that shit into my proto AC Captain Phil backpack and I was good to go.
Hobo style, screw a touring bike, screw panniers. (I talk tough but I did have to have someone else carry my beer since I had no room left in my bag)

This was the first time I had ever used a hammock system and I gotta say that it was great.  It packs down super small and was surprisingly comfortable.  The only downside was that I didn't have a sleeping pad or any insulation for under the hammock so my ass got real cold.

It was a party.
