Babes in Bikeland 7

Despite rain and chilly temperatures, 335 ladies rolled up to Powderhorn Park for Babes in Bikeland on Saturday.  If you’re not familiar with the event, it’s the largest women’s alley cat in the world and it lives right here in Minneapolis.

It’s a fabulous event.  Fabulous because it’s been successful in recruiting women to alley cat racing.  Fabulous because the whole community comes out to support the racers.

Fabulous because it puts fast and ferocious ladies head to head for big prizes and glory.

The All-City Creative Team (Saisha and I) was out in full force.  We looked amazing sprinting up the hill at the start.  Unfortunately, our program largely degraded from there.  There was a missed stop, and a crash, and Saisha’s ethos:  “Mama Don’t Sprint.”

Props to all the ladies who brought it on Saturday.

Super props to Annie Rose Grossarth, a fresh and fast recruit to the velodrome this season, who took first place on her Space Horse!
