You all knew it was only a matter of time before we put discs on our excellent Macho Man platform.
Now I know what you're asking yourself, do I really need disc brakes? The answer my friend, lies with you and the way you use your bike. If you're anything like us, and your cross bike functions as an everyday mount that you use for ripping bum trails, alleys, commuting, riding in the wet, and generally getting rad with, then you've probably come across some situations where you've wanted more stopping power. If so, then consider disc brakes.
Disc brake technology for cross bikes is only going to continue to improve in weight and performance from here on out, and the ones we're specc'ing (the Hayes CX-5) work like a champ, have a very nice finish, sport adjustment for both pads, and have amazing modulation. One ride was all it took us to become believers in cross disc for our terrain and riding style.
The Macho disc was a very cool project for us as we got to develop three new frame parts for it. A signature verical disc brake dropout, a very slick and minimal two piece cable guide, and a CNC'd logoed bb shell. We also brought back the internal top tube cable routing which was lost on the all external Macho Man.
The geo is our classic cross race platform, with a Nature Boy fork adapted to disc use.
From the details, to the ride quality, to the Bridgestone XO-1 homage paint color, we couldn't be happier with how the Macho Disc turned out, and can't wait till it drops this June.
Features
Cross Race Geo
This bike was designed to go real fast off road. It features aggressive yet traditional cyclocross racing geometry and goes like hell.
Signature Disc Dropouts
Custom AC two piece disc dropouts complete the package. It's the little touches that help our bikes stand apart.
ED Finish
The entire bike is E.D. coated inside and out. E.D. coating not only improves the quality and durability of the paint, but is the best rust proofing agent that we have at our disposal. With the E.D. coating there is no need to Frame Saver the bike, it’s already done for you.
Tire Clearance
You can fit 38’cs in this bad boy front and rear, no problem. If you’re running fenders it’ll clear 35’s.
Fender Compatible
We hope you ride this bike in all conditions all year long, so with that in mind we added fender mounts.
